Sea waves are green and wet， 海浪是綠色而潮溼的，’

But up from where they die， 但從它們平息的處所，

Rise others vaster yet， 依然卷著更大的浪濤，

They are the sea made land 那是變成沙丘的海洋，

To come at the fisher town， 湧進漁夫棲息的村鎮，

And bury in solid sand 想用堅硬的沙子掩埋，

The men she could not drown。 海水不能淹死的人們。

She may know cove and cape， 海或許瞭解海灣與海角，

But she does not know mankind 卻永遠無法瞭解人類，

If by any change of shape， 若她以為改變了形狀，

She hopes to cut off mind。 就可以剪斷人的思想。

Men left her a ship to sink： 人們留給了她一條船，使其沉沒：

They can leave her a hut as well； 同樣也能淹沒一座小屋；

And be but more free to think 她們會更加自由地想著，

For the one more cast-off shell。 再一次拋棄那無用的外殼。
