In March 1853, after the Taiping rebels captured Nanjing, they established their capital and renamed it Tianjing。 Hence, they promulgated the Tian Tian Mu System and established the township government system。 According to literature, the establishment of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom‘s monetary system was after its capital, Tianjing。 “ The Heavenly King ordered that money be cast in Jiangning, and that the standard copper makers choose those who can cast money, and that twelve be chosen, and that four be cast as money makers with the same command。” The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom coinage is basically a combination of the name of the State and the name of the holy treasure。 The name of heaven in the State contains the supreme meaning, so it is called the heavenly kingdom, heavenly king and heavenly capital。

During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom Uprising in the Late Qing Dynasty (1851-1864), the Taiping Army was formed。 Early copper coins were cast with the words “ kingdom of heaven” on the front and “ holy treasure” on the back。 there were twelve kinds of small flat coins。 Also cast back as “ Tongbao” when ten dollars。 Later, the fourth-class coins, large and small, with the “ Taiping Heavenly Kingdom” on the front and the “ Holy Treasure” on the back, were minted, mostly small flat coins。 In the late period, many small coins and coins were also coined in Zhejiang, such as the “ Taiping Heavenly Kingdom” on the front, the “ Shengbao Heavenly Kingdom” on the back, the “ Taiping Heavenly Kingdom” on the back, and the “ Taiping Shengbao” on the front。 Non-circulating money includes town bank money, large spending, etc。 The money was also inscribed with the words “ Taiping Heavenly Kingdom” and “ Holy Treasure” for the use of town treasury and reward。 In addition, money and money belong to the funeral expenses of the people。 Tianjing (Nanjing) is the main base for casting money in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom。 Suzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Jiaxing and other places also have casting。 This shows how rare the gold coins of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom are。

Recently, Bodhi Richness in Xiamen collected a gold coin of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s holy treasure, with a diameter of 3。3cm and a weight of 32。5g g。 This gold coin of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom‘s holy treasure is extremely rare and precious。 Calligraphers and foundry workers are all excellent in copper。 On the front are the four characters “ Taiping Heavenly Kingdom” written in regular script in Song style, and on the back are the two characters “ Shengbao” in traditional form, which are beautifully produced。 The word “ king” does not follow “ jade” in the national vocabulary, which is related to heavenly king hong xiuquan’s belief that the Taiping heavenly kingdom is the kingdom of kings。 The name of money is holy treasure。 First, it is different from the coinage of the Qing Dynasty。 Second, it praises the religious program of worshipping God。 Sacrifice refers to God, believing that all things belong to God and are not privately owned by individuals。

Although the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom‘s system of making money is mainly modelled on that of the Qing Dynasty and Xianfeng, the last important peasant uprising regime in Chinese history, its historical value and preciousness have long been recognized by the market and sought after by many coin collectors。 The gold coins of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom are a precious cultural heritage in China’s modern history and have extremely high historical and collection values。

The raw materials used for casting money in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom were also varied。 As the time was during the war, a large amount of raw materials were used for casting weapons。 Therefore, the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom used gold, silver and iron as well as copper, tin and lead as its raw materials for casting money。 It used almost everything it could find。 Therefore, it is very interesting to collect ancient coins of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom。 If you encounter gold coins, iron coins or lead coins, it will be valuable, because such coins were also extremely rare in the world at that time and only the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom would issue them。
