鑑於漢英兩種語言用詞造句的規則不一樣，故華慧考博老師在漢譯英的過程中有時應根據英文表達習慣的需要而增補一些漢語原文中沒有的詞語。
1。 增補做主語的代詞（或名詞）
例1：改變亨利生活的不是某些靈丹妙藥，而是他的疾病管理方式的一個簡單改變。
譯文1：What has altered Henry’s life is not some wonder drug but a simple change in the way his illness is managed。
例2：破譯基因組在科學知識和DNA處理技術方面帶來了驚人的進步，但是在改善醫療和人類健康方面相對而言卻幾乎沒起什麼作用。
譯文2：Decoding the genome has led to stunning advances in scientific knowledge and DNA-processing technologies but it has done relatively little to improve medical treatment or human health。
2。 增補物主代詞
鑑於在表示所屬關係時英語一般會用到物主代詞而漢語卻常常省略這些詞，故在漢譯英的過程中需根據英語表達的需要增補適當的物主代詞。
例1：一些父母在有缺陷的孩子出生後才得知這些基因問題。
譯文1：Some parents learn about these genetic problems after their disabled child is born。
例2：這位醫生建議他加強體育鍛煉和改掉不良的飲食習慣。
譯文2：The doctor advised him to do more physical exercise and get rid of his bad eating habits。
3。 增補做賓語的代詞
在語境的照應下，漢語通常省略充當賓語的代詞，然而在英語中及物動詞後都要跟賓語。因此在漢譯英的過程中有時需要增補做賓語的代詞。
例1：無論病人來自哪裡，醫生都應該一視同仁。
譯文1：Regardless of where patients come from， doctors should treat them equally。
例2：這種新藥會對人體產生很大的副作用，因此醫生建議病人不要吃。
譯文2：This new medicine can have strong side effects on the human body， so doctors advise patients not to take it。
4。 增補連詞
鑑於在表示詞和句之間的關係時中文通常藉助於語境和語序而英語卻透過使用連詞來達到這一目的，因此在漢譯英時有時需要增補合適的連詞來讓譯文符合英文表達習慣。
例1：進行體育鍛煉有益於身體健康，合理膳食也有益於身體健康。
譯文1：Doing physical exercise is beneficial to health， so is a reasonable diet。
例2：越來越多的人正死於各種癌症，某些人認為治癒所有的癌症還有很長的路要走。
譯文2：More and more people are dying from kinds of cancers， but some people think that the cure of all cancers still has a long way to go。
5。 增補介詞
介詞是英語中最活躍的詞類之一，英語句子大多都有介詞，相比之下，漢語中經常不需要介詞。因此在漢譯英時，經常需要增補介詞。
例1：相比以前，中國的醫療水平已經大幅提高。
譯文1：Compared with the past， the level of medical treatment in China has been greatly improved。
例2：醫生可以用更先進的醫療技術來延續病人的生命。
譯文2：Doctors can prolong a patient’s life by using more advanced medical technologies。
6。 增補冠詞
由於漢語中沒有冠詞，因此在漢譯英時需根據英語表達的需要適當地增補冠詞。
例1：人體中的水分含量經常是透過讓受試者喝一杯含有放射性示蹤劑的水來測量。
譯文1：The amount of water in the body is often measured by giving the subject a drink of water that contains a radioactive tracer。
例2：大多數護士是女性，但是在醫療領域的高層中女性卻佔少數。
譯文2：The majority of nurses are women， but in the higher ranks of the medical profession， women are in a minority。
